Well, I’m still here.
Though I’m glad I went to get my paper ticket early just to see what I’m going to be in store for. It is absolutely chaos (organized chaos but chaos all the same). The security line goes outside the security area and loops around the entire baggage claim areas of both sides. The “A” security line comes all the way out into the main hall area across the bridge and loops around the ticketing and check-in area. I met people in the ticket queue who had tickets for a flight and had been there all day and still missed their flight and were back to get more tickets.
So there were already 40 people in the standby queue for tonight’s BA flight and there is no scheduled flight tomorrow. There is no chance of getting out before Christmas day on any other airline. I think I’m prepared and I’m just going to spend the entire day at the airport on Christmas day with a good (and long) book. I have to check-in at a special check-in desk with UA (Which I noticed today that there was only 1 out of probably 50 desks) and then join the security queue. There were only 5 people in front of me when I got to the BA desk and it still took ¾ of an hour to get my transfer ticket. I was very prepared for a long stay and had taken food and water with me.
Tonight the Bamfords have invited me along to go caroling with them at the Parrs so that should be fun (well at least I don’t have to spend the evening on my own as Lorraine pointed out). Apparently the Jones’s, the Pammants , the Buttons and the Poultneys will be there too.
I can’t express how disappointed I am to not be there with you both now. Save some goose and Christmas cake for me (I’ve never had goose). We will have to have Christmas again on the 27th after I have had chance to wrap all the presents.
